Issue on Domestic Violence

This is one of the most powerful FORGE newsletters published thus far.  Contained within these pages are many high-impact, perceptive articles and poems.  We have three articles in this issue which have been authored by very knowledgeable, caring mental health professionals, who are also greatly aware of domestic violence within the trans community." Rich Jentzen and Lindsay McBride offer two interesting pieces that will hopefully spark some thoughts that will lead into their facilitation of the November meeting.  Both Rich and Lindsay are local Chicago therapists and are available for individual sessions.  Unfortunately, the other contributing therapist, Ari Lev and her partner Sundance, are outside of the Midwest, but both are incredible therapists who work extensively with both the trans community and people who are affected by domestic violence.

Also in this issue is an article that focuses on medical abuse, and how our "extended family" of helping professionals can and often do abuse us.

There are three very powerful poems within these pages as well: one from our recurring contributing writer, Tamlin, on labels and lies, and two song lyrics that center on abuse.

You will also find a list of resources that may be slightly more geared to non-heterosexual women survivors.  Currently there are very limited resources for trans and/or queer people.

Remember that November 11 - 13, 1999 is Fall Harvest Festival!  There are a few FTM-specific workshops being offered.

Mark your calendars for the December Holiday party/meeting.  If there is enough interest for a formal discussion meeting, we will gather to talk.  If not, we'll party at Buddies!
