The following is a summary of the different
service units and programs available.
- ACCESS UNIT: The Access Unit handles
incoming calls to the agency regarding child abuse and neglect referrals and
investigations, information and resource referral, requests for Food Pantry,
requests for Social Services and other emergency situations.
- FAMILY AND CHILDREN’S SERVICES UNIT:
The Department has a unit that provides ongoing social services to families
and children. Social workers complete family assessments and work with the
family in developing treatment plans and goals.
- FOSTER CARE UNIT: The Foster Care
Unit consists of two foster care coordinators, four ongoing child protective
service social workers, two family support workers, one social service
specialist, one group home social worker, group home staff, and one
supervisor.
- The foster care coordinators are
responsible for all recruitment, training, licensing, and relicensing of
foster homes. They also coordinate all foster home placements within the
county.
- The four ongoing social workers service
all cases where children are in foster care. In addition, these social
workers provide all services to the foster families.
- The three family support workers and one
social service specialist provide support services to our families and
foster homes.
- SHELTER CARE: Shelter Care continues
to provide short term care to status offenders, delinquent youth, and
children who have been victims of abuse and/or neglect. Up to eight children
ages 10 through 17 years, may reside at Shelter Care at any given time.
- GALOW GROUP HOME: Galow Group Home is
a residential group home for male adolescents ages 14 17 years. Galow staff
work with residents, their families, counselors, schools and other service
providers to implement a treatment plan that will assist residents in
successfully returning to their homes or other appropriate living settings.
- JUVENILE COURT SERVICES UNIT: The
Juvenile Court Services Unit currently consists of intake workers, social
workers, two social services specialists, a restitution/community
service/teen court coordinator, one Kids In Treatment social worker, and one
Kids In Treatment clinical social worker. The Juvenile Court Services Unit
has made a commitment to provide comprehensive community based services for
families whose child has come within a jurisdiction of the juvenile court.
- RESOURCE UNIT: The Resource Unit is a
specialized unit within the Department of Social Services, which provides
support, training and service coordination to children and their families.
Services are designed to provide a comprehensive system of child and family
oriented programs, focused on meeting the families’ personal needs. The
primary focus of the unit is to deliver services which will improve family
functioning, stabilize families at a time of crisis, and provide for safety,
both for the child and the community.

- VOLUNTEER SERVICES: Volunteer
Services contributes a number of resources to support the staff at the
Department of Social Services by coordinating the expertise and time of
community residents to serve the agency. These services offer valuable
support through our Friendly Visitor, Mentor, Legal Guardian,
Rehabilitation, Care Management Organization, and Aging and Disability
Resource Center. Every effort is made to ensure volunteers are appropriately
placed in positions based on their interests, abilities and availability.
- ECONOMIC SUPPORT SERVICES
- FOOD STAMPS: Food Stamps assist
low income families by providing them with a means to offset some of the
cost of their food. Food Stamp benefits are issued through an electronic
benefit transfer (EBT) to the customer on a Wisconsin Quest card. The
Quest card is used at Point of Sale (POS) machines to purchase eligible
groceries at stores that participate in the Wisconsin EBT Program.
- MEDICAL ASSISTANCE: Medical
Assistance, or Medicaid, provides comprehensive medical benefits to
elderly, blind, or disabled people as well as minor children, pregnant
women, and low income families. It can also pay the Medicare premium for
eligible individuals, and/or pay for institutionalization in nursing
homes, institutions for mental disease, etc
- FISCAL SERVICES UNIT: The Fiscal
Services Unit serves multiple departments within Fond du Lac County. The
unit is comprised of accounting, data processing, and clerical support. The
departments serviced by the Fiscal Unit are the Department of Social
Services, Department of Community Programs, Health Care Center, and Creative
Care Options, the Care Management Organization.
