| How? |
My web page is very basic. I wrote it using my 4 year old O'Reily book of HTML. I could have used an editor, in fact many people upon learning I was making a web page suggested editors I could download, or borrow, or should try. |
| Why This Form? |
Why didn't I? I am an artist but I have never been a graphic designer. When I write I use simple fonts. I want my words to be seen and heard. So I started with the most basic tools and learned from there. I wanted to work on my content before thinking about my presentation. The ability of a person to easily navigate my site took priority over the shiny content. If I were trying to sell something, or promote my artwork it wold be a little different. But I'm not, so it's moot. |
| Rant! |
I realize that not everyone views the web uses the same browser, computer, and speed of modem or what not. I feel in is a designer's responsibility to make their creations available to the widest variety of people. I realize some folks enjoy the seizures that flashing pages give them, yet I know others who find conniptions to be distasteful. All I want in a web page is to be able to read text and view corresponding visuals in an efficient manner that is not aesthetically offsetting. I dislike the idea that some web designers require or suggest that I use this OS or that version of Java or whatnot when viewing their work. A page without simple integrity can only hide behind specific viewing rules for so long. Eventually somebody is going to take off his or her emerald colored glasses and recognized that the man behind the curtain is a filthy web monkey. |
| My Indulgence. |
That having been said, I have created a page for my own amusement. You may enjoy it, you may not, but the creation of it has kept me entertained during a very dull job. I may create more pages. I may very well start learning an HTML editor one of these days because I did have fun in making this. I will keep the page up-to-date. However this is my last day at work, I will not have as much free time in the future. I enjoy comments and criticisms. I survived four years of critiques in art school, I can take it. |
| In a Better World... |
I would also like to say that if I had a scanner at home the page would contain more of my own artwork, but I don't. And hell, I don't always relish the idea of putting my artwork on-line; the web is a bitch for copyright laws. That is all. -Kathryn Ruth Robarts 8/24/99 |
