REI Brookfield Volunteer Service Project: 2005 Trail Building
Southern Kettle
Moraine State Forest Recreational Equipment Inc. (REI),
The Wisconsin Off-Road Bicycling Association (WORBA), and the Department of Natural Resources
(DNR) invite all mountain bikers and trail users to take part in this wonderful volunteer service project.
Our focus will be on building two new miles of additional connecter trail beginning work at Young Road
heading north. Due to safety concerns, we are creating a brand new one-way trail between John Muir and
Emma Carlin, designed by Rich Edwards from the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA).
The new trail will eliminate two-way traffic, be very challenging and environmentally sustainable,
eliminating the need for constant trail maintenance.
Participants will meet at the John Muir trailhead. Long pants and gloves are recommended.
Tools will be provided. Participants will receive a free cool t-shirt, water bottle, lunch and more.
The cookout will take place after work is completed.
Date: Saturday, June 18th, 2005
Time: 9 AM- 12 PM followed by lunch.
Contact: Register with Nick Irish at (262) 783-6150 or via e-mail
Volunteer Trail Workdays Scheduled
Southern Kettle
Moraine State Forest (March 5,
2005) The Wisconsin Off-Road Bicycling Association (WORBA) and
the Department of Natural
Resources (DNR) invite all mountain bikers and trail users to take part
in volunteer trail work
days.
Our focus will be on the connector trail system, currently
a two-way, five mile
trail between John Muir and Emma Carlin. Due to safety concerns, we are
creating a brand new
one-way trail, designed by Rich Edwards from the International Mountain
Bicycling Association
(IMBA). The new trail will eliminate two-way traffic, be very challenging and
environmentally
sustainable, eliminating the need for constant trail maintenance.
Tools
will be
provided; however, volunteers are encouraged to bring their own work gloves and water. If
you have
any questions, or want more information, call Mike Bettinger (LaGrange General Store), at
(262)
495-8600, or James Wamser at (262) 317-8272
(wamser@worba.org)
We continue to improve
the
trail system by applying skills and techniques learned from the IMBA Trail Care Crew, along
with
the book Building Better Trails, a 72-page trailbuilding manual. Drawing on the Subaru/IMBA
Trail
Care Crews experience building and maintaining trails around the globe, Building Better
Trails
gives step-by-step instructions for trail layout, construction and maintenance. This book
also
provides trailbuilding resources, and includes a section on building technical, challenging
trails
that are environmentally sustainable.
