Las Vegas, Navada

My Visit to Las Vegas

There is much more to Las Vegas than just gambling. There are many museums and other fun family attractions in and around the city. I went to the Hoover Dam, MGM Grand Hotel and Casino (It is impossible to go to Vegas without gambling), and the Indian and Turqouise Museum.

The Indian and Turqouis Museum

This is a very fun museum to visit, and one of Las Vegas' "hidden treasures". The museum is dedicated to teaching people about the history of Native Americans and mineralogy. This exciting and unique museum offers information on the mining of minerals and the making of jewelry. You can also learn about how the Paiute and Anasazi Indians lived, hunted, and farmed in the desert. I learned a great deal at this museum and highlly recomend visiting it.

MGM Grand

MGM Grand is one of Las Vegas' most popular and famous hotels. Staying at this hotel provides a wonderful and enjoyable experience. Not only is it just a hotel, but there is a casino, and even a lion habitat! Some of the gambling includes table games such as black jack, craps, roulette, and much more. MGM Grand was also named one of the best places to play slots with thousands of slot machines to play. My favorite part of MGM Grand is the lion habitat. You can see up to five lions daily. Some of the most famous lions are Goldie, Metro, and Baby Lion who are all descendants of MGM studios signature marquee lion. I enjoyed my stay at MGM Grand very much.

Hoover Dam

Hoover Dam is the most popular day trip from Las Vegas. It is located about 30 miles southeast of the city. Many people thought that the Colorado River needed to be tamed, and the result was the largest concrete structure in the U.S. It is quite a sight when you visit the dam. The Hoover Dam holds back 50 trillion pounds of water in Lake Mead which is the largest artificial reservoir in the country. It is 660 feet wide at the base, 1,244 feet across, 726 high and is wide enough for a two lane highway at the crest. There is enough concrete to pave a 2 lane highway from San Francisco to New York City. This is truly an architectural feat, and a very fun place to visit.
