Year Seven:: NRSV (New Revised Standard Version!)
Because I need time to contemplate where I’m going, how I'm
getting there, and at what pace I'm pushing the plot, I’m going to be
going back and editing the old chapters. Needless to say, in a story
that has stretched to nearly 240 pages, there are edits that simply need
to be made, and they need to be made BEFORE I get into the grist of the
final chapters: certain characters need to be brought forward, certain
segments pruned down or expounded upon, and whatnot. All this brings us
to what I have affectionately dubbed, "Year Seven: NRSV" (if you're not
familiar with Bibles, NRSV stands for "New Revised Standard Version")
My ultimate goal is a simple one, to have something more cohesive that
addresses some of the problems in the original text (my original text,
that is!) and to have a rewrite that won't take too long. Count on
seeing...
1) more Harry/Hermione. Obviously, a lot of outside interference
affected when and how this 'ship came about. I'd like to add a few more
interpersonal aspects...a little more attraction, a little more
awkwardness, and a lot more humor because romance can be downright
hilarious.
2) More Ron/Luna, so it doesn't look like the ship comes out of
nowhere!
3) More Neville. Because Neville is wonderful and deserves more
page time (and, okay, okay, he's important to the plot!)
4) A different role for the Ministry of Magic....so it doesn't look
like a complete dictatorship. That got out-of-hand when I was writing
Chapter Eleven and it just doesn't work for the rest of the plot.
They'll still be unhelpful jerks, but it'll be a little less "Stalin"
and a little more...I'm not sure. I was going to say "Dick Cheney," but
that doesn't fit either.
5) Clearer plotlines and better character development (particularly
for Ron and Ginny, but Harry and Hermione will be more skillfully
developed as well!)
6) And - ahem - a few other things that I won't go into in detail
and you'll have to wait to read for yourself ;)
7) More succinct summaries of what I'm doing with my story ;)
*laughs*
Hopefully, the NRSV will be a more enjoyable read that is both easier to
understand (for you) and better written (on my part).
Luckily, this is something I can do even with my limited time because it
simply won't require the same level of concentration and the same time
commitments to rewrite and add in little scenes here and there as it
does to craft a whole new chapter.

Finally, there is one thing
that would thrill me to no end. One would be if everyone who read
reviewed, which I don't think is asking too much. If I'm pouring
hours of time into writing chapters for your enjoyment, then spending
two or three minutes reviewing chapters as you read is a small (yet
hugely appreciated) method of repayment. Please, I'm beseeching you not
to wait until the end to review. If everyone waited until the
last chapter was posted to review, who would encourage me to keep
writing? No one. My final word on this
subject? I love my reviewers to death.
