original design Foray

competition, 4-A Cluster Altitude

line drawing (.GIF) of Foray - 4A Cluster Altitude model (2k)

WOOSH (NAR section 558) held a 4-A Cluster Altitude event at MWRC-97 and I tried to design a model to compete in it. Unfortunately, my building skills are not as advanced as I might like and I was unable to complete it in time for the contest - but I *will* complete it.

The model planned uses 2 'T' motors (expected to be A10-0T or A3-4T) and two Apogee 10.5mm micro-motors (planned A2-7) in a diamond pattern - with the micro-motor tubes touching and the 13mm tubes forming the points of the diamond. It uses four forward-swept elliptical 1/16" thick plywood TTM (Thru wall To motor Mount) fins and transitions from BT-50 for the rear of the model to BT-5 for the recovery section. I intend to use streamer recovery and a load of carpenter's chalk (dayglo orange) to assist spotting the ejection.
