I suppose I can be called a born-again rocketeer (BAR), even though I don't feel I ever *really* left the field.
I got involved in model rocketry back in 1966 or 1967 -- ordering an Estes Scout from the ad in the back pages of Boy's Life magazine. I was active (at least sporadically) all through high school and college, but then fell back to armchair rocketeer mode. I maintained *some* contact with the sport, picking up rocketry magazines when I saw them and even building a couple models (see Current Models and Past Models, below), but I hadn't launched anything since 1973 while I was attending U.C. Berkeley.
That finally changed during the summer of 1997. I've been picking up Sport Rocketry and High Power Rocketry whenever I saw them at Cudahy News and Hobby and I started reading the rec.models.rockets (RMR) newsgroup. When I saw that there was finally an NAR Section (#558 Wisconsin Organization of Spacemodelling Hobbyists - WOOSH) in Wisconsin, I decided it was time to become active again. I've joined NAR (#71223 SR Ins) and WOOSH and started attending launches. I've downloaded a number (a LARGE number! ;-) ) of plans from Jim Z's plans website and (re-)built some of the models I used to have.
If you're interested in model rocketry, join NAR and/or Tripoli (and a local Section or Prefecture), read the RMR (rec.models.rockets) newsgroup to get up to speed (the people there are always willing to help out an interested modeller) and start launching.
