| 27 May, 1998 | sanded primer - initial color coat |
| The primer really loaded up the 400 grit sandpaper I was using. It seemed OK on the Generic E2X when I was using 150 grit, so I'm probably just trying to go too fine a grit too soon. | |
| 25 May, 1998 | primer |
| Sprayed Krylon primer to *try* to be ready for the AL14 contest. At least the 1/4A PD event. | |
| 24 May, 1998 | fillets |
| Added second fillet to the fins. | |
| 23 May, 1998 | fins |
| Finally! Back to the V-2. The laser-cut fins fit nicely to the boattail. I'm glad I didn't have to do a cut-and-try operation to fit them up. Also added the first fillets to the fin/boattail junctions. | |
| 15 April, 1998 | Finished taxes, started model. |
| I attached the kevlar shock cord to the engine block, built the motor mount and and glued it (using thin CA) into the nicely turned balsa boattail. After threading the shock cord through the BT, I tied it through a supplied bead and glued the bead into the turned balsa nose cone. |

| 30 May, 1998 | broken fins |
| The fins on my model seem to be a bit delicate. This, combined with my ham-handedness, resulted in my breaking a fin while I was taping in the motor for the model's first launch. Fortunately, a little thin CA was sufficient for repair. The same thing happened again (and the same fin) while I was prepping for my Sport Scale flight. Again, thin CA to the rescue. Finally, in the box on the trip home another fin broke and got some hanger rash on the leading edges of a couple of the fins. It has been repaired, but I think this one is going on the shelf with its ribbon. | |
