I originally purchased the kit for this model from Jan and Bob at San Antonio Hobbies in Mountain View, CA back in 1979. I started building it at our apartment there, but we moved to Racine, WI in 1980 and I didn't finish the model until (I think) 1983 or so. It then sat on the shelf - never having gotten the inclinition to give it a flight. Now, it looks like this guy'll never take to the air.
I pulled him down from the shelf to take to Eat Cheese or Fly, 1997 and found he was just too deteriorated to launch. His legs had pulled loose from the body tube and, over time, the plastic cement has warped the top of the legs to the point where they cannot be reglued. I guess he'll go back on the shelf for memories of what might have been...
Looks like we need a new model - uprated to a 24mm mount. Yeah, THAT's the ticket... |
