Alan's Fleet, Estes Spaceplane clone

boost glider

I had an original of this model (back in '67? - see past models) and wanted to have another. One of the members in my club offered me a copy of an article from a back issue of Sport Rocketry(?) so I could clone my old model. Plans are also available now on JimZ's plans site.

I took the partially completed model to WOOSH's 1997 Christmas party to show how it was coming. At that time I had not yet added the elevon stops and nylon screw adjusters. I also took it along to the January meeting of NIRA, but managed to break off the corner of a tip plate while I was getting out of the car. :-(

The model has been completed (except for painting) and I had the first test launch in late February, 1998. (see launch reports, below)

Built: December, 1997 - January, 1998
Launches:
18 April, 1998 - club launch
21 February, 1998 - test launch (boost gliders)
Repairs: February, 1998 Replaced elevon elastic. Original size chosen was too small (thin) and did not pull up the elevons all the way.
