The ATS System is initially being developed as a Light Rail alternative using specially designed buses capable of traveling on battery power using existing streets - and as a high speed 'trolly' on the special trackway. Range flexibility of the vehicles will provide greater convience for commuters than would be possible with light rail. |

The ATS system features electric/hybred vehicles which feature a positive, physical connection with the roadway through the interaction with a 'control arm' and a slotted 'guide rail' embedded in the trackway. |

A dispersed, redundant, network of secure 'system computers' communicating with the on-board vehicle computers, will direct and coordinate all traffic on the grid. Computer control and the interaction between the vehicle and the roadway/grid will allow autopilot transportation and traffic compression with increased speed and efficiency. Because the vehicles on the system are assembled into 'platoons', the system will be able to handle much greater traffic loads than can be handled by the existing freeway system while reducing lane requirements. |
