Code of Ethics
(Approved and adopted in 1976)
1. In my breeding, I will strive always for the betterment of my breed(s) according to the approved AKC standard with quality, not quantity most important, and I will be concerned with the betterment of all breeds.
2. I will only use a stud dog which meets the AKC requirements. I will not breed a bitch more often than is acceptable in my breed(s) and less if the age or health of the bitch so indicates. I will abide by ethical breeding as set forth for my breed(s).
3. I will not breed dogs with hereditary defects as to type, structure, or temperament, nor will I use a bitch or dog which, when bred to two different mates, has produced the same serious fault.
4. I will humanely destroy deformed puppies. Should any known defect not impair a puppy's life, papers will be withheld until such time as said puppy is spayed or neutered, proof of which to he certified by a qualified veterinarian. Purchaser shall be required to sign a statement to this condition.
5. I will sell only clean, healthy, properly immunized and socialized puppies & adult dogs. I will not place any puppies under 7 weeks of age or any adult dog unless of an age to permit a reasonably safe and healthy adjustment to a new home. At the time of sale, I will provide to the purchaser an up to date medical record, an AKC registration form, a three generation pedigree, and adequate instructions and information for the proper feeding, care and future medical needs of the puppy/adult dog.
6. I will not knowingly misrepresent any puppy/dog sold by me.
7. I will guarantee any puppy/adult dog sold against hereditary defects with terms clearly defined in writing.
8. I will base the price of puppies/adult dogs and stud service on individual quality.
9.I will provide clean, safe and vermin free shelters and runs or yards with access to sufficient clean water and adequate food for all dogs in my care or responsibility.
10. I will not engage in selling to pet shops, wholesaling litter lots, allowing stud service to puppy mill operators, donating dogs as prizes for commercial ventures, or any other such activities detrimental to any breed.
11. I will not knowingly participate in any form of inhumane treatment of any dog(s).
12. I will not show, work, or train dogs that are in poor health, unclean, or of vicious temperament. When engaged in any dog activities or other Coulee Kennel Club activities, I will do so in an honorable manner.
13. I will at all times, conduct myself in a manner designed to reflect credit upon myself my breed(s), and the Coulee Kennel Club. |
