The 1850 Indiana Census for Johnson Co., Clarke Twp shows William living with his brother John J. and sister-in-law Lucinda B. H. (McGuire) Dake. He is reported as 22 years of age (born cir 1828 in Indiana) and working as a Blacksmith. They were living only a few households away from John Dake's father-in-law, Joseph McGuire, who had a 15 year old daughter, Drusilla, whom William will marry in 1852. The 1860 Iowa census lists William's birthplace as Virginia. The 1870 Missouri census lists William's birthplace as Ohio. The 1880 Missouri census lists William's birthplace as Ohio.
