Knowing that it is marijuana's illegal status that is responsible for increased usage of other illegal drugs amongst adolescents and that the cost of the war on marijuana and the amount of money that leaves the country to purchase the marijuana smuggled into the United States is an incredible amount, many estimate in the hundreds of billions of dollars, knowing this information, do you think marijuana should be legalized in the United States?
It has become the belief of many in the United States that the war on drugs is not working. The financial and social costs of marijuana prevention are too high, far outweighing the cost of legalization. Many believe that a solid majority of our elected officials understand the need to legalize marijuana in the United States but are unable to do so due to political pressure. Drugs, including marijuana, are just as prevalent as they were twenty years ago. Yet, there has been a substantial destruction to your rights and to The Constitution of the United States as well as a tremendous strain on our legal system, an increase in violent crime related to drug prohibition, and the problems are getting worse. It is time to legalize marijuana in The United States. Education and treatment are far more effective methods of dealing with the use of illegal drugs than incarceration and disenfranchisement. To disregard these facts will eventually lead to a drastic change in the economic status of the United States brought about by a refusal to consider the facts regarding the drug war. Contact your elected officials today and tell them that you will support them when they decide to make the decision to legalize and regulate marijuana. Tell your elected officials to legalize marijuana now, before it is too late. It's the right thing to do for America.
