4th grade Social Studies Project

Please include all of the parts below in your Wisconsin state project.

 

Geography- Make 2 maps of our state. Choose: population, city, highway, climate, railroad route, resource or other.

 

History- a. Make a time line of important dates.     

     b. Explain the history of Wisconsin becoming a state           including Northwest Territory .                                             

c.    Find two  historical  landmarks found in Wisconsin. Tell  their location and why they are important.

d.   Write about the Ice Age and  its affects on Wisconsin geography: landforms or geology(types of rocks, minerals).

e.    Where did Wisconsin get its name from?

 

Government:  Fill in state symbols sheets. Example: state flag, flower, etc.

QUESTIONS: a. Who is Bob LaFollette? Why is he famous?

                     b.  Who is Joseph McCarthy? Why is he famous?

  c.  Who is our state governor?

 

2.      People:  Fill in the Snapshot Template about 4 famous people from Wisconsin.

QUESTION:  a.  Why did early explorers come to Wisconsin?

b.      What  effect did trading have on the Indians?

c.      What things were traded?

d.     Who were the traders?

e.      Why did settlers come to Wisconsin?

         Research:  Choose an ethnic group that has come to Wisconsin. Write 2 paragraphs about their contributions.

 

3.      Places of Interest: Write down 10 important places you would like to visit, or events you would like to attend in Wisconsin. Make sure to state where they are located.

4.      Economy:  Use the ECONOMY Quilt to draw picture of important aspects of Wisconsin economy.  Write a sentence or two about each aspect. Ex:  In one of the sections draw pictures of cheese which is a big part of our economy in Wisconsin.

5.      WISCONSIN ABC CHART :  Think about all you have learned about Wisconsin. Draw a picture above all of the letters that have something to do with Wisconsin. For example, Ll ~ draw a picture of lumber, and write lumber next to the letter.

6.      Read a  book about Wisconsin, or written by an author from our state. It can be a tall tale, historical  fiction or a biography. Write a report and share it with the class.

EXTRA CREDIT:

    Make a travel brochure highlighting our state.

    Make a license plate of Wisconsin on a nice sheet of  construction paper.
