Tripoli Level Three Project (Page-2)

I applied 3/4" reinforcing tape using West System's Resin under the area where the fillet will be.
I covered the fins with Coverite, a model airplane iron on covering. I chose to apply the covering before I added the fillets. I left about 1/4" bare plywood where the fillet will lay. On a different project using Monokote covering, I learned it is very difficult to apply the covering to the fillet.

This is the main bulkhead for the booster. I added to heavy duty springs to provide a shock absorbing connection for the main shock cord. Not in view are two large fender washers above the springs.

Construction

I have been making single use ejection charges with 1/2" cpcv pipe for over a year. This is the first time I've used 3/4" pipe. When these assemplies have fully dired, an electric match will be suspended above about 5/16" of epoxy.

The shock cords are made of 2" strap, just like an auto seatbelt. In the he first step, I epoxied a section of strap as a doubler, and use a heavy duty stapler to form loops at each end.

Construction

Not shown is an application of heavy fiberglass cloth around the stapled ends, which are now covered with red electrical tape. The main Rocketman parachute will attach to the link between the two cords. 5/16" quick links are used as the connecting hardware. A second much longer cord will be assembled the same way to attach the booster to the main body, with the drogue chute attached.
