Manned Space Plastic Models

Winter Rocketry Diversions

New.....Information on every Spacecraft and X-Plane Model ever produced is available here! This includes flying models.

This is the Apollo Command and Service modules in a 1/32 scale kit.
This model has two clear panels showing the interior.

I Built this model in the early 60's, I had been looking to see if I could locate a vintage kit and discovered it had just been re-released as a memorial to Gus Grissom, and his recently recovered Liberty Bell 7. It features the Gemini & Mercury Spaccrarft in 1/48 scale.

This is another kit that was first available in the early 60's, the Gemini Spacecraft. This one was purchased in 1998.
This is a finely detailed kit in 1/24 scale. The Capsule, Retro Section, and Equipment section are all detachable.

5 Rocket Set

This five rocket set is currently available from AMT. These are all the NASA rockets used in the US manned space program prior to the Shuttle. All are in 1/200 scale. The Mercury Redstone is only about four inches tall; the Apollo Saturn V is about two feet tall! Also shown, the Mercury Atlas, Gemini Titan and Apollo Saturn 1B. These models are easy to assemble, but a challange to paint.

This is a finely detailed kit in 1/110 scale of John Glen's Mercury Atlas. This kit is currently available commemorating John Glen's return to space on the Shuttle. The actual launch tower is not included in the kit. The yellow tower in the photo is actually the Atlas trailer which acts as the booster erector. This is a difficult kit to assemble, the instructions are very basic. However, once completed and painted, it is well worth the effort.

5 Rocket Set

I built the red service tower from scratch using Evergreen Styrene plastic. Available in many sizes and shapes at almost all hobby shops. I used photos of pad-14 as a guide in what I would call a semi scale model.

This was the most ambitious plastic model project I have ever tackled. I believe this Revell kit was available in the late 80's. I purchased this one via an eBay auction, it had been started (about 5% only), and had the possibility of having a few missing parts. However, the condition kept the price down under $100. Mint kits sell for closer to $200. The instructions keep you guessing often. I made it a habit of test fitting parts, and re checking before using cement. The pad is molded in gray only, so plan on a lot of painting. The scale is 1/144 and the Shuttle with external tank and boosters is also included.
