Manned Space Plastic Models
Winter Rocketry Diversions....Page Three
.....Information on every Spacecraft and X-Plane Model ever produced is available
here! This includes flying models.
This 1/72 model of the Gemini Titan is a kit from "Real Space Models". Unlike
a Revell style plastic kit, this one contains resin parts. As you can see, the
finished model is very impressive. There are only a handful of parts to assemble, and
I found it more difficult to build than a plastic kit. The painting and decaling are
the most difficult steps. The Pad-19 backround was created using a actual photo
and a large ink jet printer to produce a 12 by 19 poster.
The Saturn V is the 1/200 AMT model available currently. The platform & tower were built
from scratch. Every piece was cut by hand using styrene plastic from "Evergreen Scale Models"
The scale & design are based on many photos of launch complex 39 from many angles. There is
a super rare1/296 scale model similar to this one, however it is not very detailed and demands
about $150 on eBay.
This Apex 1/144 Vostok Carrier Rocket launched the first human into orbit.
This Russian made kit is similar to a Revell kit, however the instructions were poorly done. As usual, the painting is the
most difficult part of the assembly.
This Mercury Redstone is two kits, a Revell 1/48 scale Mercury Spacecraft and a modified Glencoe Jupiter-C. The length of the Jupiter-C was
increased about three inches and the Revell spacecraft was added. The graphics and lettering were created with a vinyl sign cutter. It stands
about two feet tall. Notice the tip of the escape tower broke off before the model made it to the display case.
This Airfix 1/72 scale Lunar Module is currently available. Looking at the box, it looks like a toy, but it's actually a well detailed kit. It even comes
with cement and paint. I'ts a bit of a challange to assemble because the drawings are not done very well.
