This scene captures the brilliance of the sunlight
in the strength of the color contrasts. One of the interesting
aspects of this painting is the suggestion of the black shirt under
the bright yellow tee shirt worn by the girl on the left.

Mums

Soft Pastel - completed 1991

This was a natural, realistic still life setting
of mums. The white Canson paper was used to maintain the

Large Petunias
|
Soft Pastel - completed 1991
|
16 7/8" x 21 3/4"
|
|
Done in much the style of Georgia O'Keefe, this
was a study of sunlight playing on flowers. White Canson
paper literally makes the colors jump off the paper. Viewers often
enjoy the illusion of the softness of the petals and the buds. This
was also included in the Racine Art Guild 1992 Spring Show at Wustum
Museum, Racine. In 1993, it was included in the Connecticut Pastel
Competition in Wallingford, CT, and the Grand Exhibition of the Akron
Society of Artists, Akron, OH.
In a private collection.
