Racine Harbor with Red Lighthouse

The original was created on dark blue Canson paper and captures an early evening look at the old Racine harbor. It was done to protest the possible removal of the lighthouse from the harbor. It also shows the lighthouse as a signature piece of the Racine harbor scene.

Executed on dark blue Canson paper, this is an image of water lilies in the fish pond at my parents' house in Annapolis, MD.
Displayed in Indianapolis at Regional Show XII sponsored by the Southside Art League, where it won "Honorable Mention".
This painting was also included in the 69th Grand National Exhibition - Painting, Graphics and Sculpture sponsored by the American Artists Professional League, Inc., in New York City, NY. It was displayed at the Salmagundi Club on Fifth Avenue.

The Sydney Hih building in the the historic Third Ward district of Milwaukee.
Pastel chalk was initially mixed with acrylic matte medium to give the colors more depth, then finished with highlights of soft pastel chalk.

This scene captures the brilliance of the sunlight in the strength of the color contrasts. One of the interesting aspects of this painting is the suggestion of the black shirt under the bright yellow tee shirt worn by the girl on the left.

This was an attempt to present Racine's Windpoint Lighthouse in something other than the traditional view. People enjoy the sense of strength they get from the horizontal line of clouds in the sky.

Mums

This was a natural, realistic still life setting of mums. The white Canson paper was used to maintain the "w hiteness" of the rear mums. There are subtle hints of color in the mums to create a sense of form and depth.

Large Petunias

Done in much the style of Georgia O'Keefe, this was a study of sunlight playing on flowers. White Canson paper literally makes the colors jump off the paper. Viewers often enjoy the illusion of the softness of the petals and the buds. This was also included in the Racine Art Guild 1992 Spring Show at Wustum Museum, Racine. In 1993, it was included in the Connecticut Pastel Competition in Wallingford, CT, and the Grand Exhibition of the Akron Society of Artists, Akron, OH.

Pink Petunias

Done on brown Canson paper, this was a study of the varying shades of color and the depths of the shadows created by the addition of color to black. This was included in the Oil Pastel Society of New York's International Pastel Show in Watchung, NJ, in April, 1992. In 1993, it was also included in the Connecticut Pastel Society Competition in Wallingford, CT.
