KM art is owned by Kent Mueller, who will curate art for food. He cofounded Wright Street Gallery in Milwaukee's Riverwest neighborhood in 1984 with Dean Olson.

In 1987 he cofounded the Metropolitan Gallery with his wife, Linda, Jim Pattison, Ellen Straw, and Linda's parents Herb and Shirley Matschull. Metropolitan Gallery, famous for Shirley's spinach dip, threw a great party, often drawing 1,000 or more people to the opening receptions. Consequently, it closed in 1993, deeply in debt to several liquor stores.

In 1995, Kent was hired as Director/Curator of the Walker's Point Center for the Arts. The position and Kent were eliminated in October of 1996.

Against all advice and wisdom, he started KM art in October, 1998, splitting a large second floor space with the much more together Hermetic Gallery, owned by Nicholas Frank.
