"Federation Update"

for Meetings, Delegates, and Donors

January 2007

Divine Call for Religion and Foreign Language: On October 9th, the SLHS Board of Directors extended a divine call to Rev. John Koelpin. Pastor Koelpin declined our call on November 11th. The board of directors called Rev. Dan Habben on November 13th. Pastor Habben declined our call on December 2nd. The board of directors was provided a list to call for a third time in its meeting on Monday, December 11th and extended a call to Rev. Paul Brug of Marshall, WI. Pastor Brug continues to hold our call.

Other Divine Calls: Jason Schultz declined our English call on January 2nd. The board will attempt to call again in its regular meeting on January 8th. In our December 11th board of directors meeting, our call for an art teacher was placed. Mrs. Tracy Honeck, a member of Trinity, Caledonia, received our part-time call to teach art, organize the school yearbook, and coordinate the forensics program. Tracy accepted our call on December 19th. Any questions about our calls or the details involved with any of them can be directed to the principal.

January Dates and Activities: Classes resumed on January 3rd. We pray all families enjoyed a worshipful and restful Christmas break and are anticipating a new year of blessings from our gracious God! Our second quarter and first semester officially end on January 12th. Grades will be tabulated and mailed out by January 22nd. A teacher in-service will be held on Monday, January 15th (NO SCHOOL). The faculty will spend time in Bible study and curriculum map revision. The Pacer Brunch is to be held on Sunday, January 28th (11:30 A.M.). All prospective families with students in grades seven or eight are invited to this informational meal, presentation, and tour of the facility organized by Assistant Principal, Mr. Paul Scriver.

Congregational Support: As of 01/05/07, December 2006 congregational support totaled $26,268 as compared to the $31,668 needed to meet the budget each month (-$5,400). School year-to-date (2006-2007), congregations have sent in $172,139 as compared to the $190,000 needed to meet the budget for the first six months (1/2) of the fiscal year (-$17,861). Statements for your individual home congregations are included in mid-month mailings to donors and general board delegates. Thank you for your support of love.

Students Helping the Community: Student leadership groups and clubs at school organized a food drive during the month of December for local shelters. Over 600 items were collected and delivered just before Christmas break began. Thanks go out to the student council, National Honor Society, and the Ministry Club for their efforts and to the leadership provided by their supervisors: Mr. Paul Scriver, Mrs. Kathy Schultz, and Mrs. Kathy Weiland.

Senior Student Returns to School: Tom Solofra, the senior boy who was struck with a debilitating sickness that left him unresponsive and in a coma for over a week, has recovered to the point where he was able to return home on December 22nd and was able to attend school after Christmas break. We praise God for giving Tom back to his family and friends after what seemed to be such a close brush with death. While the cause of Tom’s sickness remains a mystery, we know that the reason for his recovery is not. To God be the glory!

Special Funds Continue to Grow: Both the funds for our new organ and gym floor continue to grow after initial communication began in November. The organ fund needed $15,000 plus miscellaneous expenses to cover the project. To date, over $21,000 has been given! The gym floor replacement is a much larger effort needing $100,000 for completion. To date, well over $15,000 has been given! We thank and praise our gracious God!

God’s blessings as you continue to serve the Savior in partnership with Shoreland Lutheran High School!
