Calico Field SpanielsText Box: Conformation Showing

The purpose of conformation showing is to demonstrate how closely a dog  approaches the “ideal” or theoretically perfect specimen of a Field Spaniel. Dogs are judged on the basis of a breed standard. The standard accounts for the intended purpose of the breed (such as for the Field Spaniel is performing the work of hunting) while considering  the physical attributes required for the dog to do the job. In addition, the

particular physical attributes which make up what fanciers call “type” are detailed in the breed standard. It is generally accepted that only dogs who closely resemble the ideal specimen of the breed should be used in breeding future generations. The Bench Championship (CH) title is conferred on dogs who compete and earn points by defeating other Field Spaniels on the basis of how closely a particular judge feels the dog approaches the breed standard.

There is also room for the kids in conformation show events:  Junior Showmanship is an ideal way for children to become involved in the sport of purebred dogs.
