The ESSFTA/AKC Breed Standard

The Kennel Club (UK) Breed Standard

The breed standards are very similar, with the exception of:
The UK Standard states "Jaws strong, with a perfect, regular and complete scissor bite, i.e. upper teeth closely overlapping lower teeth and set square to the jaws".
The AKC standard states "Teeth are strong, clean, of good size and ideally meet in a close scissors bite. An even bite or one or two incisors slightly out of line are minor faults. Undershot, overshot and wry jaws are serious faults and are to be severely penalized. Scissors or Level bite ok."

The AKC standard goes into much more detail regarding conformation.  The ESSFTA felt this was necessary as "moderation" is the key to describing an ESS.  Moderate without explanation is sometimes hard to understand.  The AKC ESS standard is one of the longest of all the AKC recognized breeds.
