What is a laser?

A laser is a high-tech instrument that produces a focused beam of light. With the dental laser, this beam of light is used to precisely remove tooth decay and prepare the tooth for a filling.

The laser produces a mild sound that one patient described as "popcorn popping."

Anesthetic is normally not required.

Unless the tooth is sensitive to water, anesthetic is usually not needed, therefore, you will not need a shot. Also, since the dentist does not have to wait for you to get numb, you will not have to be in the chair as long and you can go back to work without the lingering numbness. Most patients feel nothing after having a filling done with the laser.

Are lasers safe?
