Your Baby's Teeth and Gums

When should you start dental care for your baby? Immediately, that's when. Baby's gums should be gently swabbed with a soft cloth and water after every feeding. When putting your infant or toddler down for a nap, be sure to give him or her clear water. Juices and formulas can pool in baby's mouth resulting in Baby Bottle Syndrome. This means that the child's primary teeth will be decayed and may need to be extracted. Your dentist will be happy to assist you with any questions about how to care for your infant's teeth. Most dentists recommend that children have their first dental visit by age three.

Advances in materials and treatments have made tooth decay in children almost nonexistant. Your dentist will advise you on how to help your child maintain excellent oral health.
