Getting There

By bus:
Transportation to the Memorial is varied. If you're without a rental car, The Bus is an excellent alternative. These Honolulu busses board at numerous Waikiki locations during all regular hours of service. The #20 bus is the most direct. For this reason a lot of #20 busses are full. Other busses do travel to, and beyond, the Visitor Center and Memorial. Ask the driver of a #20 bus for the numbers of other busses that go to the Visitor Center and Memorial. The only difference is that with other busses available from Waikiki, you must transfer at the Ala Moana Shopping Center, in order to continue on to the Memorial. Don't overlook the small commercial shuttle busses and vans that travel exclusively to the Memorial. They are reasonably priced and are non-stop, therefore faster.

By rental car:
From Waikiki:
  • Take Kalia Road east through Ft. DeRussy to Ala Moana Blvd.

  • Turn left on to Ala Moana Blvd. Stay on Ala Moana past the Ala Moana Shopping center, until it joins (becomes) Nimitz Highway 92. (Past Restaurant Row and the Federal Building.) Nimitz is lower H-1.

  • Continue on Nimitz past Sand Island Access Road and past all the Honolulu Airport exits..

    • You'll be looking for Highway 99. (Kamehameha Highway)

  • The exit to Highway 99 will be after you pass the airport and come to a major interchange.

  • Keep right and enter Highway 99.

  • Continue on 99, go past the Navy Halawa Gate and housing. Look for the well marked Pearl Harbor Visitor Center signs. The Visitor Center is on the left.

    • From Honolulu International Airport - Via H-1 Freeway West
  • Take the upper ramp access to H-1 West. You'll be going in a westerly, (left) direction away from the airport terminal.

  • At the first major interchange take Arizona Memorial exit 15A (Look for the Arizona Memorial exit, NOT Pearl Harbor exit) This will be the second exit.

  • This exit then turns into Kamehameha Highway 99.

  • Continue on Kamehameha Highway, as instructed in the "Via Nimitz" instructions, on to the Visitor Center.

    • Return to Visitors Center.
