Family, friends, representatives of the U.S. Navy and Pearl Harbor Survivors Association gathered at the dock of the U.S.S. Arizona Memorial on May 11, 2004, for services conducted for survivor Paul Urdzik. Also in attendance representing the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association were; Everett Hyland (USS Pennsylvania BB-38) and Ray Emory. (USS Honolulu)
Paul was aboard the U.S.S. Vestal (AR-4) during the attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941. (See Paul's memory of the attack here.)
His ashes were scattered over the water near the entrance to the Arizona Memorial during the full military burial ceremony. During the attack on Pearl, the USS Vestal had been tied to the Arizona and the present day entrance and landing dock at the memorial was where the Vestal was tied up to the Arizona.
