  The goal of the program is to have the students learn Spanish through the existing curriculum by enhancing and enriching the Social Studies program.  We will of course start out with basic Spanish phrases, then move on to use the new Spanish vocabulary in a Social Studies context.

 Grade 3 Program:

 
Quarter 1 - we will be reviewing greetings, colors, numbers... and
learn the days and months in Spanish.
  We will also practice the Pledge of Allegiance in Spanish.
We may do Monarchs in the Classroom along with the Classroom teachers.

(Monarchs and Migration project.)

  Quarter 2 - we will learn about good health, which involves good nutrition and exercise.  We will find out about the Food Pyramid in Spanish and discover some typical Spanish meals.
  
We will also learn about the Body, "el cuerpo", and Exercise. 

  Quarter 3 - [We will find out about the weather  and clothing of Central and South America and  contrast these with our own area.]
(We will learn Family vocabulary and customs plus adjectives describing people and things.)

  Quarter 4 - We will emphasize "Map Skills" (Direcciones, Geografía, los Países y Capitales). Emphasis on Mexico.

 
Grade 4:

  Quarter 1 - Students will review basic phrases learned, numbers, colors, months, days, foods, clothing...
   They will then learn the basic shapes and forms in Spanish integrated with the art of the famous Spanish artist Picasso, who was the inventor of "Cubism".

  Quarter 2 - Ordering food in a restaurant. En el Restaurante

  Quarter 3 - Sports and exercise. Deportes
 We will find out more about Soccer, "el fútbol", their most popular sport!

  Quarter 4 -

 We will review the continents and the Spanish speaking countries of the world.
Países We will learn words for places in a town and contrast a typical Latin American town with  Oak  Creek.
   Since Grade 4 does the "Fifty Nifty States", we will put emphasis on 
Puerto Rico).


Grade 5:

Quarter 1
- Review.  Learn about Spanish houses (rooms,furniture, chores).
Casas 

Quarter 2
- We will use verbs to practice more food, shopping and ordering.

Quarter 3
- Weather and Clothing. (?)
[We will find out about the weather  and clothing of Central and South America and  contrast these with our own area.]

Quarter 4
-  Emphasis on Central America: Guatemala and La República Dominicana

Of course all along the way, Hispanic culture and celebrations will be woven into the classroom experience.
