December 16, 2002

President Dale Roethig called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm. Attendance: 5.
Secretary Gary Köhler read the minutes of the November meeting.

Discussion

 o Dennis Drewek updated us about his troubled Tyan motherboard.
 o Dale Roethig showed us his new PCMCIA card with USB 2.0 and a new network adapter. It is a replacement for an onboard USB port damaged in an accident.
 o Gary Köhler gave some initial observations about Mozilla 1.2.1.
 o Dennis Drewek had a few anecdotes about miscellaneous junk computers.
 o Dennis Drewek and Dale Roethig found that the network cable was either bad or a crossover cable.
 o Dale Roethig showed a video called "Fowl Play" by Christopher de Santis.
 o Dale Roethig previewed some of the contents of the club Christmas CD.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 pm.

November 18, 2002

Secretary Gary Köhler called the meeting to order at 7:06 pm. Attendance: 6.
Secretary Gary Köhler read the minutes of the October meeting.

Discussion

 o We looked at several scans of a Halloween pumpkin done by Randy Jaeckel.
 o Dennis Drewek detailed recent trouble with a Tyan motherboard that he ultimately had to send back.

Due to "overbooking" of the Wimmer Room the meeting was adjourned at 7:30 pm.

October 21, 2002

Secretary Gary Köhler called the meeting to order at 7:06 pm. Attendance: 5, 6 later on.
Secretary Gary Köhler read the minutes of the September meeting.

Discussion

 o Kevin Cook asked if anyone went to either the Civil War encampment or the swapfest at GraysLake.
 o There was a general discussion of the Yes article in The Monitor Newsletter and the recording and movie industries in general.
 o This was followed by a discussion of post-Napster peer-to-peer services.
 o Discussion then veered off onto the upcoming governmental elections.
 o Dale showed up and the meeting revived.
 o Dale then demonstrated the Unreal Tournament and Army Ops games.
 o Kevin Cook showed an animation entitled Raymond and His Love For Cheese from Immortal 3D.
 o We looked at the Musicmatch Jukebox program.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:05 pm.

September 16, 2002

President Dale Roethig called the meeting to order at 7:01 pm. Attendance: 4, 7 later on. He spoke to Brion about Gamefest recently, and Brion is enthustiastic about it.
Secretary Gary Köhler read the minutes of the August meeting.

Discussion

 o Gary Köhler described a recent cleaning of viruses from his dad's machine.
 o There was a general discussion of Gamefest.
 o Scott Brunkow had recently backed up his system, reinstalled the operating system on a new drive and was wondering if there was a way to selectively restore the files.
 o A guest, Mike Rye, showed us WinUAE, an Amiga emulator running on his laptop.
 o Dale discussed Blue-Gray CON, a Civil-War theme Game SIG Special Event.
 o Dale then discussed other recent Game SIG activities.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 pm.

August 19, 2002

President Dale Roethig called the meeting to order at 7:03 pm. Attendance: 6. He discussed Gamefest, a potential GenCon replacement scheduled for next year.
Secretary Gary Köhler read the minutes of the July meeting.

Discussion

 o The Seven Signs of Spam were discussed.
 o Yoshi's Box, the ultimate gaming box was discussed.
 o Dale Roethig had some information about a new virus checker program from GRISoft.
 o Gary Köhler shared some computer funnies he'd received.
 o Dennis Drewek asked about means of testing his new system. He then shared an anecdote about CPU temperature while installing/running WinXP.
 o Scott Brunkow described problems with another user's system after installing the wrong version of Windows Media Player.
 o Dale had a look at some of the nasty surprises concealed in the EULA (End User License Agreement). Is considering dumping WMP.
 o There was a discussion of DVD's and the site VCDHelp.com.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:42 pm.

July 15, 2002

Secretary Gary Köhler called the meeting to order at 7:08 pm. Attendance: 5, 6 later on.
Secretary Gary Köhler read the minutes of the June meeting.

Discussion

 o There was discussion of numerous astronomical topics.
 o There was also a discussion of "copy protected" CD's as a follow-up to the recent article.
 o GenCon was discussed. Good riddance!
 o A guest, Tyler, is interested in Amiga and music synthesis.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:55 pm.
