June 16, 2003

Secretary Gary Köhler called the meeting to order at 7:16 pm. Attendance: 5.
Secretary Gary Köhler read the minutes of the May meeting.

Discussion

 o Kevin Cook shared a possibly apocryphal story about a customer support person fired for telling the truth.
 o Dennis Drewek brought his laptop.
 o Gary Köhler shared the "End Vendor License Agreement" by Jeff Adkins from lowendmac.com.
 o Kevin Cook showed us an "air-conditioned" game controller from nYko for his Game Cube.
 o Kevin Cook brought some pictures of his frogs that he had stored on a pocket-drive.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:42 pm.

May 19, 2003

President Dale Roethig called the meeting to order at 7:16 pm. Attendance: 6, 5 later on. Dale showed us his new UPS purchased at an electronics liquidation store.
Secretary Gary Köhler read the minutes of the April meeting.

Discussion

 o Gary Köhler had a few comments about SCO's lawsuit against IBM and the danger it poses for Linux.
 o Kevin Cook brought in a GameCube that is being worked on.
 o Gary Köhler spoke about "hobbyist" operating systems.
 o The recent eclipse and other calendrical topics were discussed.
 o Dennis Drewek recently encountered problems trying to read TIFF files at the US Patent and Trademark Office. He had acquired a "mystery tool" and had no clue what is was save for the patent number on it. Ultimately he found out what it was.
 o This lead to a discussion of copyrights and patents.
 o Gary Köhler recounted an article about PegasOS and MorphOS courtesy of osnews.com.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:32 pm.

April 21, 2003

Secretary Gary Köhler called the meeting to order at 7:10 pm. Attendance: 6, 4 later on.
Secretary Gary Köhler read the minutes of the March meeting.
Treasurer Phil Moughmer reported that our finances are running low, the balance is only $489.

Discussion

 o There was a general discussion of the club finances.
 o Then there was a discussion of modern hard drives.
 o Gary Köhler mentioned an article that he saw about how hellish the install of Linux is, which led to discussion of operating system installation and hardware detection.
 o Gary Köhler described the "brain transplant" he performed on his computer and the precautions he took so that the installed operating systems could boot properly even after the hardware environment changed.
 o Dennis Drewek described a Japanese PS2 with hard drive that is not working. Kevin Cook suggested the Model Zone web site.
 o Lastly, there was a discussion of the Windows startup.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:46 pm.

March 17, 2003

President Dale Roethig called the meeting to order at 7:18 pm. (Started late on account of the President's speech.) Attendance: 6, 7 later on.
Secretary Gary Köhler read the minutes of the February meeting.

Elections

All current officers were retained by acclamation.

Discussion

 o Dennis Drewek had problems purchasing a monitor that was an advertised special at Office Depot, but all turned out well in the end.
 o Phil Moughmer explained some of the methods used in image processing.
 o Phil Moughmer asked just how much power our Game SIG was using on Saturdays, the post was contemplating a surcharge. Ballpark estimate: no more than about 50 cents per meeting!

Demonstration

Dale demonstrated the Adaptec VideOh! video capture device and the Movie Mill program.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:55 pm.

February 17, 2003

President Dale Roethig called the meeting to order at 7:10 pm. Attendance: 6, 7 later on.
Secretary Gary Köhler read the minutes of the January meeting. He also reminded us all of elections to be held at the March meeting.

Discussion

 o Gary Köhler updated all on some problems arising from Intuit Turbo Tax 2002's "copy-protection" scheme.
 o Dale Roethig previewed more contents of the club Christmas CD-ROM.

January 20, 2003

President Dale Roethig called the meeting to order at 7:07 pm. Attendance: 7, 6 later on.
Secretary Gary Köhler read the minutes of the December meeting.

Discussion

 o Dale Roethig demonstrated a C-64 emulator for Windows. Got as far as starting M.U.L.E..
 o Dale Roethig previewed the contents of the club Christmas CD-ROM.
 o Phil Moughmer showed us his new digital camera.
