December 15, 2003

President Dale Roethig called the meeting to order at 7:08 pm. Attendance: 4, 7 later on.
Secretary Gary Köhler read the minutes of the November meeting.

Discussion

 o Dale Roethig mentioned the upcoming Wright Brothers centennial.
 o A guest, Donald Bean, introduced himself.
 o Kevin Cook demonstrated the Urban Terror mod to Quake.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:58 pm.

November 17, 2003

President Dale Roethig called the meeting to order at 7:08 pm. Attendance: 5, 7 later on.
Secretary Gary Köhler read the minutes of the October meeting.

Discussion

 o There was a discussion of video cards.
 o Kevin Cook showed up wearing an interesting mask in keeping with the football season.
 o Phil Moughmer updated us about the print cable. Turns out that the reservoir was dry and the printer was sending back a false signal. The cable was just fine.
 o Discussion turned to typing classes. Gary Köhler told about taking such a class in summer school at a time when very few boys took such classes and how handy it was because that summer he was exposed to computers and keypunching.
 o Dennis Drewek described a server farm shown on TechTV.
 o Kevin Cook brought in a 128Mb USB pen drive, demonstrated Zone Alarm.
 o There was much "ooh-ing" and "ahh-ing" over John Schwarzmeier's new digital video camera, a Samsung SCD230.
 o There were some updates about patents and the new broadcast flag for HDTV.
 o At the next meeting, we will attempt to use John Schwarzmeier's camera to convert videotape to digital format.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:52 pm.

October 20, 2003

Secretary Gary Köhler called the meeting to order at 7:04 pm and read the minutes of the September meeting.
President Dale Roethig showed up. Attendance: 5, 8 later on.
A member, Ron Fontaine, introduced himself as this was the first regular meeting he had attended.

Discussion

 o Phil Moughmer asked where he could get a printer cable for an old Macintosh.
 o Dale Roethig demonstrated his new "shoebox" computer.
 o Phil Moughmer asked how to get data from a System 7 era Macintosh over to a PC.
 o Dennis Drewek showed off an incredible picture printed on his new printer. It was indistinguishable from a postcard!
 o Discussion turned to money, such as the new $20 bills.

Demonstration

Dale Roethig demonstrated the latest version of Microsoft's flight simulator program, Flight Simulator 2004. We got to crash lots of emulations of classic planes!

Discussion

 o There was much ooh-ing and ahh-ing over John Schwarzmeier's new laptop computer.
 o Dennis Drewek showed us the new memory chip used by his new digital camera, a Fuji 3800.
 o Dennis Drewek related his experiences with Tivo.
 o There was a general discussion of televisions.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:52 pm.

August 18, 2003

President Dale Roethig called the meeting to order at 7:12 pm. Attendance: 6.
Secretary Gary Köhler read the minutes of the July meeting.

Discussion

 o Gary Köhler described problems his father had been having with AOL 8.0 again.
 o Dale Roethig reported on GameFest. We grossed $341 for a net of $285 from 90 customers. In all GameFest had 1200 people in attendance, not bad for a first occurrence and one week after GenCon in Indianapolis. Now we are looking ahead to RockCon.
 o John Schwarzmeier had information about the SwapFest at Grayslake September 20-1.
 o Phil Moughmer showed us some of his pictures from GameFest, including a few that he had been able to touch up.
 o Kevin Cook shared his pictures from GameFest.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:43 pm.

July 21, 2003

President Dale Roethig called the meeting to order at 7:21 pm. Attendance: 5.
Secretary Gary Köhler read the minutes of the June meeting.

Discussion

 o Gary Köhler described problems his father had been having with AOL 8.0.
 o The Game Cube was demonstrated.
 o Gary Köhler mentioned the recent lawsuit brought by SCO against IBM and its implications for Linux.
 o The new movie Pirates of the Caribbean was discussed.
 o There was discussion of the upcoming Gamefest.
 o Phil Moughmer had a question about the address book in Outlook.
 o There was a discussion of cutting and pasting.
 o Gary Köhler asked about a frequent file in use problem in Windows XP.
 o There was further planning for Gamefest.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:05 pm.
