Discussion
Dennis Drewek described Netgear and other network hard-drives.
Dennis Drewek recounted problems with his X10 home control system, that the time got skewed somehow.
Gary Köhler spoke about a new book, Live Linux CDs by Christopher Negus. Gary then showed several distributions on John Schwarzmeier's computer, such as Knoppix 5.0.1, Linux Live Games Project, and Damn Small Linux.
Discussion turned to Ubuntu a currently popular Linux distribution.
Gary Köhler tried to run a live CD of Visopsys 0.64, a hobbyist operating system on both John Schwarzmeier's and Dale Roethig's computers, to no avail.

Discussion
As a follow-up to last meeting's topic of the ultimate game machine, Dennis Drewek darkly hinted that the real reason for Sony pushing the PS3 was the need to push their floundering Blu-Ray HDVD technology.
Dale Roethig reported this year's activities at RockCon. We had eight machines set up and networked for Ghost Recon. Two of the machines, ironically not the ones expected to give trouble were the ones that failed. The bottom line: $100 for our treasury.
Dale Roethig reported about Dr. Who and Torchwood.
There was discussion of bandwidth and a sale at Milwaukee PC.
Dale Roethig recently purchased external DVD burners.
Scott Brunkow asked Dale Roethig about the cost of the state-of-the-art game system priced at $1,500 according to PC Magazine's specs. Dale felt that the price could be gotten down to $1,000.
There was a discussion of the new quad core processors coming out.
Dennis Drewek described a system he put together for a friend.
Gary Köhler described his brother's laptop computer woes. Update: His other brother ultimately came through and fixed the system.

Gary Köhler motioned and Phil Moughmer seconded formally raising the dues to $30 per year. Passed 4 to 1 with 1 abstention.
There was a brief discussion of the US presidential election.
Dennis Drewek offered his impressions of OpenOffice 2.0.4 vs. Microsoft Office.
Inspired by the "Half a Century of Hard Drives" article in The Monitor Newsletter, we reminisced about computers and languages from the 1960s.
Gary Köhler asked about PeoplePC Online. Discussion of available options, DSL, etc.
Dennis Drewek described fun that could be had with spray foam.
Dale Roethig described the current state-of-the-art game machine.
Dennis Drewek shared his experiences with Ubuntu and FireFox 1.5.

Bootlogging was tried with Quagmeier II. We were astounded by the size of the file, but most of it is from previous runs.

Further attempts were made to fix Quagmeier II, but to no avail. It still takes about 5 minutes to boot. By comparison, Dale's 9300 takes 1:45 to boot up.
