Discussion
Guest Robert Biersack introduced himself.
Discussion turned to CP/M, teletypes, and paper tape.
Antivirus problems came up for discussion next, Gary Köhler relating the problems with Norton Antivirus 2006 on his late father's computer.
We visited the eComStation Wikipedia page to show everyone what OS/2 / eComStation is about.
Gary Köhler described recent progress on his ImageThis! program.
Robert Biersack took us to the ReactOS website. ReactOS is an open source project that is attempting to clone Windows.
Robert Biersack spoke about PCE, a PC emulator program similar to Bochs and QEMU.
Discussion then turned to hobbyist operating systems.
Robert Biersack mentioned that he heard about our group through our website.
Inevitably discussion turned to languages.
Lastly, we discussed the recent controversy over cursive writing versus printing.

Discussion
Gary Köhler updated us about his dad's condition.
Gary Köhler spoke about recent progress on his Imagethis! program.
Scott Brunkow explained the differences between different kinds of RAM, such as static, dynamic, volatile and non-volatile.
Gary Köhler spoke about BeOS and how a group of programmers are trying to resurrect it as Haiku.
We then went onto the web to see the haiku-os.org website.
While we were online we Googled "Santorum" and discovered why it is NSFW (Not Suitable For Work).
Lastly we discussed the wonders of the English language regarding the creation of words. Gary Köhler offered "bogosity", a word that he and many others have devised. Scott Brunkow pointed out "microlenat" online, which was proposed as a unit of bogosity.

In 2012 the September meeting will be on International Talk Like a Pirate Day. Not too early to start planning. Arrr!
Discussion turned to cheesy sci-fi flicks such as Mothra and various zombie films.
Kevin Cook showed us a new 500W power supply he bought for a computer he is about to build.
Gary Köhler had a number of updates about his phones.
Gary Köhler spoke about the idle loop of old computers and a bug of the early Commodore 64.
This led to a discussion of CP/M.
The recent deaths of Steve Jobs and Dennis Ritchie came up. The contributions of Gary Kildall were mentioned.
Gary Köhler brought up his Dad's computer and how Norton Anti-virus is eating up the hard drive. Kevin Cook suggested a program called WinderStat.
Discussion turned to old phones, clocks, and sundials.
Kevin Cook asked about ad-blockers.
John Schwarzmeier reported that he cannot close Hotmail program because it claims that an ad-blocker is on, which it is not.
Gary Köhler spoke about his ImageThis! program and filesystems.

Discussion
Gary Köhler updated us about his dad's recovery. Gary asked about the need to have an external plug for the air-conditioner plugged in for 24 hours before first use of the season. Kevin Cook spoke about putting away the swimming pool for the winter, almost stirred up a hornet's nest in doing so.
(Update) Gary Köhler reported that his brother removed the old wires and put in new wiring. Now all (almost) of the phones are back, so is the DSL service.
Discussion turned to birthdays, the International Talk Like a Pirate Day (that everybody forgot!) and Harry Potter.
For some weird reason earthquakes came up.
Gary Köhler described some old programming treasures he found while cleaning his room.
Discussion then turned to space-junk. (Hmmm)
Gary Köhler described some work he's doing on the Shapiro time delay in general relativity.

Discussion
Gary Köhler described his current woes that have been distracting him from his computer.
Gary Köhler also mentioned his phone problem which had been solved (only apparently) remotely by AT&T. More on this at the meeting.
Kevin Cook showed off several mystery electronic items.
Kevin Cook went to Wizard World last weekend, showed artwork from Sentinels of the Multiverse and other goodies.
(Update) John Schwarzmeier has his phone and Internet back.
Kevin Cook recommended dslreports.com for testing of broadband connections (not just DSL).
Discussion turned to repairs and a site called thereifixedit.com.
Gary Köhler had a few questions about zen and the art of lawnmower maintenance.
Dennis Drewek spoke about setting up an HP ePhoto printer.
This led to discussion of old printer interfaces, Atari 2600 systems and old hardware in general.
Dennis Drewek and Kevin Cook got to talking about a 320 GB SATA USB drive, satellites, DVRs, and other hardware.
John Schwarzmeier showed Dennis Drewek his LiteOn USB DVD/CD recorder.

Gary Köhler showed his Hewlett-Packard HP-41CV calculator which he attempted to resurrect after 12 years on non-use. Not working at that time.
Scott Brunkow reported that his wireless mouse occasionally drops out, leaving the cursor frozen in place.
Gary Köhler gave a progress report on his orbit determination program.
John Schwarzmeier described his recent problems with switching to DSL from TDS Metrocom to AT&T.
Discussion turned to last year's floods and flooding in general.
We took note of the anniversary of the moon landing, and then talked about UFOs and plane crashes.
