Remember when -
GLORIA DEI LUTHERAN CHURCH 1967
OUR ART GLASS WINDOWS

Art glass windows add
beauty and symbolism to the surroundings in the new sanctuary. The Christian Church
through the centuries has been conscious of meaningful art forms to portray the teachings
of scripture. Two symbolic windows designed by a local artist are in the fore part of the
nave.
The window on the left side of the church, is designed to show the
hand of God extending downward to His people. The Holy Spirit is descending in the form of
a dove over a very modern baptismal font. Looking closely you will see three drops of
water forming the shell of the font. This symbolizes the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
The symbol at the lower right corner of this window is the Chi Rho
(PX) which are the first two letters of the name of Christ in the Greek Language. The
Church is reminded of Christ's baptismal directive in Matthew 28:18 - "Baptize in the
name of . . . ." We view Christ as the foundation for the Sacraments.

The window on the right side of the nave tells us that our Christian
directive is to go into all the world, thus the ship at the very top of the window. The
next area to be observed is the sacrificial lamb on an altar. This lamb is bleeding into
the chalice. "By His blood we are healed," taking away the sins of the world.
The next symbol is very unique in that the Ten Commandments on tables of stone are
portrayed. You will notice that only seven of the commandments are shown. The open Bible
is placed before the tables of stone signifying that the Word came not to replace the Law
of God, but rather to fulfill it.
The
window in the choir loft is designed to portray the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Blue is
the traditional color for God, and this forms the inner circle in the window. To the left
is a dove, neither descending or ascending, but remaining ever present, the Sanctifier of
life.
At the right is the cross, signifying the Redeeming work of Jesus
Christ. You will also notice the triangle -- a traditional symbol of the Triune God.
This window represents the entire work of God in that He is Creator,
Redeemer, and Sanctifier.
Two windows designed to portray the Trinity in colors have been placed on each side of
the chancel. These windows let in the various colors to fall on our Altar.
These colors are meant to deepen the impressiveness of the worship. The intent here is
to cheer the worshipper as well as bring the sense of mystery and awe before God.
