2000

The All-Beardie Art/Photo Contest!

Who:

This competition is open to all amateur and professional artists, photographers, and crafters.  There is a special category for children under age 12. Entries for "Exhibition Only" are also welcome.

What:

Photography (black and white or color)
Videos
Charcoal, pen/pencil, pastel, computer art, acrylic, oil, watercolor
Sculpture
Handicrafts (needlepoint, jewelry, quilting, etc.)
Children's art and photography
Entries for "exhibition only" are welcome

Personal Creations:

All entries must be the sole personal work of the entrant.  Beardie videos, however, may be entered by a group of people who took part in their production.  Amateur vs. Professional Status:  An entrant will be deemed a professional within a category if he/she has earned more than $500 from work done within that category.  For a video group entry, the group will be classified as professional if any one member of that group had more than $500 in earnings from video-related work.  Note that it is possible for a person to be considered a professional in one category, but still be an amateur in a different category.

Photos/Art Size Limitation:

Photos and flat artwork must be at least 5" x 7".  The maximum size is 16" x 20" (up to 18" x 22" matted).  All photos and flat artwork must be matted or flush-mounted.

Other Disqualifiers:

Judges, recognizable people, winners' photos and signatures are not allowed.  Any recognizable people in the photos must be members of the entrant's immediate family or accompanied by a copy of a standard photographic release form signed by each non-family member in the photo.

Videos Format:

All Beardie videos must be submitted on a standard, U.S. format VHS cassette.   More than one entry may be included on the same tape cassette.  Videos may tell a short story, or simply be some artful images that capture "Beardiness."

Length:

Videos are limited to five minutes in length.  The five-minute rules will be strictly enforced.

Other Disqualifiers:

Any recognizable people in the video must be members of the entrant's immediate family, or accompanied by a copy of a standard photographic release form signed by each non-family member in the video.

Crafts

All other type of Beardie-related artwork or crafts not specifically mentioned above shall be entered in this classification.  Please identify each piece submitted with a name and mailing address attached to some hidden part of the piece.  No signatures or other identifies should be visible on the pieces entered.

Where/When:

Contest submissions will be displayed in the hospitality room during the run of the show.

Awards:

Awards and prizes will be given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each art, photography, and craft category.  There will be a Best in Show award.  Each child will receive a ribbon for participating.  The decisions of the judges are final.

Entries and Deadlines:

Every entry must have a completed Art/Photo Entry Form with a $5 entry fee received by the Chairperson no later than September 8, 2000.  This include all entries-those that are mailed and those that will be hand delivered.  Late Reservations forms will not be accepted.  Mailed entries must have a Reservation Form firmly affixed to the back indicating name, address, category, and professional or amateur status.  If a children's entry, please indicate age.  Mailed entries must be shipped in a reusable container with return postage enclosed.  All hand delivered entries must be delivered by October 12.  Hand delivered entries must have a Reservation Form with entry fee sent to Art-Photo Chair by September 8.  Please see Art/Photo Entry Form.
