BEARDED COLLIE CLUB of AMERICA
NATIONAL SPECIALITY
2000
Tuesday - October 10, 2000Herding Trial
Two Beardie-only Herding Trials will be held at a site approximately 53 miles south of the
Olympia Resort and Spa. (See "getting there"
for directions from the Olympia.) There will be a
different judge for each trial. Because one trial will be held in the
morning and the other in the afternoon, the number of dogs will be limited to 30 for each.
Entries are $40 for each run. Entries will not be accepted before August 22, 2000.
Entries close on September 8, 2000. Both trials will be on a mirror Course A.
There will be three dog-broke, cross-bred, St. Croix sheep per run. Food will be available
by advance reservation only, due September 8. See the
Herding Luncheon Reservation Form.
There is a Days Inn Motel
about four miles from the trial site that will accept dogs. It is located in Richmond, IL.
People who are driving in on Monday, may want to stay closer to the trial site and drive up
to the Olympia Resort and Spa on Tuesday night. Rooms rates are $99 a night for a single plus $5 for the
dog. Telephone: 815.678.4711
Herding Judges
Dana Hasemeier (Morning Trial)
Dana is from southwestern Ohio, and has been involved with AKC herding since its inception.
She and her husband, Rick, have Cardigan Welsh Corgis, and their Fantasy Farm Cardigan Kennel is
home to the breed's first and fourth HX's. Dana is also an AHBA tester/judge and trials
actively in AKC and AHBA events.
Peggy Richter (Afternoon Trial)
Peggy started in herding in 1982 with Belgian Sheepdogs. Her first trials were in ASCA with a
dog named Bearclaw, who became the first Belgian Sheepdog in the country to earn a competitive
herding title. She supported AKC and AHBA herding very early, with the first Belgian sheepdog
to earn an AKC title, and the first HRD - titled Belgian Sheepdog. She has earned the only
WTCH held by a Belgian Sheepdog, and has earned the HTCH. Two of her Belgians have HX titles;
she is working for an HCH with one of them. As AHBA President, Peggy has worked toward a
program that supports all herding breeds. She considers the development of the HRD course
rules one of her greatest accomplishments. Peggy currently has four Belgian Sheepdogs; all
four have herding titles.
Herding Instinct Test
The first leg of the BCCA Herding Instinct Certification will be offered. Because of time and
stock constraints, the second leg will not be offered. Even though the instinct test is open
to Beardies only, pre-registration is required to insure a spot. The sheep are dog-broke,
cross-bred St. Croix sheep that have been exposed to loose-eyed dogs. Test fee is: $40.
