Judges
Obedience Judge - Suzanne Mayborne
Suzanne started out by running field trials with her Golden Retrievers. She became interested
in Obedience competition, and put a UD and 98 OTCH points on her first female Golden, Bounty Quick
Picker Upper. In 1989, the dog she was actively showing, OTCH Shoreland's Big Harry Deal,
became famous by winning Ken L Ration Dog of the Year. He broke the record for OTCH points
accumulated in one year by getting 1,321 points. In the same year, Harry won Super Dog at the
Gaines Obedience tournament, and first place in the Top Dog division at the World Series, where he
got three perfect scores of two hundred. Suzanne also has trained a Border Collie to his
OTCH, OTCH Shoreland's Macho Man, TD. Suzanne has just started in agility with her Border
Collies, and has one NA. She is also active in conformation, having twelve Border Collie
champions and three Australian Shepherd champions. Suzanne began judging obedience in 1987.
She enjoys traveling, meeting new people, and seeing people who enjoy working with their dogs.
"I really think the Beardies are beautiful, and would like to try one somedaybut, I do need to
find the time for grooming! They seem like a very intelligent and willing to please breed.
And they are fun as well! Full of personality. Good luck to all of the exhibitors and
have a good time with your dogs!"
Sweepstakes Judge - Michele Ritter
Conformation Judge - Denise Atkins
Denise has been in dogs as a show exhibitor for just over twenty five years, but she has been
involved with dogs all of her life. She inherited an English Springer Spaniel the day she
was born, and grew up with an Alsatian and Standard Long Haired Dachshunds bred by an uncle
involved in the dog scene. She became interested in exhibiting dogs at a very early age.
In 1976, Denise purchased her first Bearded Collie from Lynne Evans (Brambledale), and shortly her
second, from Maureen Reader (Tamevalley Folk Lyric of Labooshar). Denise campaigned Folk
Lyric to her championship. After careful consideration, her breeding plans were put into
action, and Folk Lyric produced Denise's first home bred champion in her first litter. Since
then, her breeding program has produced one International Champion, one English Champion, nine stud
Book Entrants, three puppies from one litter all with reserve CC's, and all in only eight litters.
Denise has served on the branch committee of the Bearded Collie club, held the position of
Membership secretary for five years, and took the post of secretary to the Bearded Collie Club some
fourteen years ago. Denise has judged Beardies and breeds from the working group around the
UK and also abroad. Several years ago, Denise visited Canada to judge their National
Specialty, and was very impressed with the dogs entered under her. "I have always been
respected when judging, in as much that all exhibits are given equal time when being examined, and
that I always give the new generation of youngsters special encouragement when first showing.
Also that the decisions I take are not swayed by current winners, but by how close the animal being
presented matches the standards laid down by the Kennel Club, and my interpretation of them.
I have been a regular visitor to the BCCA National Specialties since 1995 and look forward to judging
your Regional Specialty in October 2000."
