Next project was to wire it up. Wired up everything under the hood including the front light harnesses, the new fog lights and elec. cooling fans. Ran a large ground wire from the frame to the steel grill, used the grill as a ground for all the front lighting and cooling fan. Also mounted a ground strip on Pass. front fender for washer pump and starter sol. Next came the harness mount that goes through the firewall. Installed the fuse panel and new grounding strip on the inside of the firewall. Wired up the steering column and wired cooling fan and fog lights to fuse panel. Rest of the wiring can wait till after it's painted. Mounted the positive and neg. cables to the battery and watched. No smoke, fires or hot wires -- we did good. Pulled the pos. cable till next time.

Engine overview.

Did a quick tighten down of the tub, installed fuel fill and vent hose. Poured in seven gallons of gas. Mounted the driver side seat. Looked everything over, it's ready to start. I turn the key and don't hear the fuel pump start. Turn to start it and nothing. We start looking for what we missed and my bud's son says, "Shouldn't you connect the battery." Smart ass. Connect the battery and tried again. This time the fuel pump started but the engine wouldn't. After some time we nailed it down to that we hadn't grounded the starter sol. The carb. and dist. had not been touched during the rebuild because I had set them up before we tore her down. Turned the key, BINGO she fired right up. Let it sit at an idle while we looked for fuel and coolant leaks, found none. Next the cooling fans wouldn't run, OOPs I missed putting a fuse in that circuit. Took her for a drive, it ran beautifully, brakes were right on, as was the clutch. Tried the 4wd, smooth as could be. Parked it and the only thing we saw were two small brake line fitting leaks. Time to get it ready for the body guy.

Till next time.........
