The Summerfest grounds offer the urban angler an excellent fall fishing opportunity. The brown trout are done spawning and starting to hit. The best baits to use now are spoons and crank baits. Chartruse is presently the best color to use, but later on you'll want to switch to the more natural blue and silver colors. Golden Shiners also work well fished under a bobber. Don't overlook the lagoon, it can produce some nice fish.
The South Shore Yacht Club is located by the south gap of the break wall. This area is dynamite for pike. Any type of crank bait or spoons will work, as long as it's silver and blue. Be sure to cast all around the boats and espesially the numerous weed beds.
"THE DAM" is located in Ceasars Park on the Milwaukee River. The dam prevents the salmon and trout from migrating further up the river, so the fish just sit right under the dam. By far the best bait to use here is fresh spawn. Either fish the spawn on a bobber just above the bottom, or cast it out into the current with an egg sinker. If you don't have any spawn spoons work well. However, be careful of the numerous snags that can be obtained by fishing too deep. A long handled net is necessary as the drop to the water is about five feet.
This small tributary is located in South Milwaukee's Grant Park. Fishing pressure can get high this time of year but crowding is usually not a problem. Use spawn fished on a bobber, or my favorite lure, a #3 sweedish spinner with a white bucktail.
