The single screen Westlane Cinema opened on December 23, 1967 under management of the General Cinema Corporation. It was twinned sometime prior to September 21, 1981 (a Milwaukee Journal "Movie Guide" clipping from that date lists the "Westlane Cinemas I & II").
The Marcus Corporation took control of the Westlane in 1984 and
renamed it the Southtown 5 & 6 (with the Southtown 1-4 being
located across the street). The Southtown 5 & 6 closed
permanently in May 1998. The building remained vacant for over a
year and a half before being razed during the final week of December
1999 and the first week of January 2000.
In September 2002, construction of an Appleby's restaurant began on
the site, opening in January 2003 (three years after the theatre was
razed!).
