QUALITY MANAGEMENT

The Agility Forum
This is the site of the Agility Forum. It includes extensive information and resources on this important topic. It includes a free monthly e-zine (electronic magazine) and the Agility Knowledge Base, a for-pay service with case studies, conference papers, and profiles of agility and research projects. This is a very complete site on this subject.

Agile and Advanced Manufacturing
This page on the excellent Quality Resources Online site consists of more than a dozen links to sites relevant to agile manufacturing. A good place to start.

American Productivity and Quality Center
This is the "International Benchmarking Clearinghouse," focusing on benchmarking and the development of best practices. It offers training and other resources in such areas as benchmarking, knowledge management, measurement, customer satisfaction, and productivity. The site includes articles from the Center's magazine Continuous Journey.

Arizona State University TQ Resources Pages
The resources here include a continuous improvement glossary, a tool application matrix, and details on basic and MP tools.

The Benchmarking Exchange
TBE is primarily for members only, but visitors can get a free 30-day trial "subscription" to the world's largest and most comprehensive benchmarking, quality and process improvement, and knowledge management network.

Business Process Reengineering Learning Center
ProSci provides articles, tool kits, information on consultants and other resources, and addresses for BPR mailing lists.

A Business Researcher's Interests
Although this may not be "The Ultimate Business Management and Technology Resource," as it's labeled, this site provides very useful links and search capabilities. The emphasis seems to be on topics dealing with information management.

The Deming Cooperative
A little of everything at this site: users groups, conferences, seminars, workshops, information on books by or about Deming, videos and training materials, and contacts and consultants.

The Deming Electronic Network
The site was established "to foster understanding of the Deming System of Profound Knowledge to advance commerce, prosperity, and peace." The DEN is a communications infrastructure for the W. Edwards Deming Institute (WEDI) and its board of directors, but operates independently. It includes lots of articles and essays related to Deming's approach to management.

Department of Navy Total Quality Leadership Office
This page includes a complete overview of how TQL is being implemented in the U.S. Navy. Lots of good information for people in the Navy or dealing with the Navy. Ideas and initiatives being taken by the Navy have many nonmilitary applications.

Design for Competitive Advantage
This site provides information on total quality control and a variety of technologies: business, cost, engineering, human, mathematical, quality, and system.

Euroqual
This site is "The Source for Information on European Quality." It covers a broad range of quality-related issues in an easily accessible, user-friendly format, featuring an interactive network of on-line databases. Free registration is required.

The Expert Marketplace
"This Ultimate Resource for Consulting Services," this site claims to list more than 200,000 firms. There are also business case studies and articles on business improvement. It's for members only, but membership is free.

Krister Forsberg's Quality Management Principles
This site contains information, essays, and several dozen links related to ISO and quality around the globe.

The Healthcare Quality Assessment Page
This page is maintained by a consultant, but it includes a lot of good information and links, with special emphasis on the application of the Baldrige criteria to assessing the performance of healthcare organizations.

John Hunter's Webplace: Customer-Focused Continuous Improvement Site
This is a quirky, friendly place with a variety of useful links to many other quality- related sites. Also includes articles on TQM and lots of information on what's going on with TQM in many different contexts, with extensive topic-related book selections to reinforce learning.

Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations
This is the site of the JCAHO, the major healthcare organization accrediting body. It emphasizes quality management practices and provides a variety of materials to help hospitals and clinics implement TQM. This site describes the organization and their various resources. A must if you are in the healthcare field.

Del Kimbler's Tool Tutorial Pages
Here you'll find detailed tutorials, a synopsis of seven quality control tools, and a case study overview.

Bob Willard's "LeaderAid!"
Identified as "Internet resources for leadership/management development," this site has good resources of interest to managers, including leadership and management, facilitation techniques, teams and teamwork, and the learning organization.

Learning-Org Dialog on Learning Organizations
This site is dedicated to Peter Senge's learning organization ideas and contains the archives of the Learning-Org discussion group, with all the postings organized by month and accessible by subject and author as well. Includes good basic information on learning organization concepts.

Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award
Everything you could want to know about the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and where you can find out more. Includes the criteria for awards in business, health care, and education that can be used as excellent internal auditing documents.

Mr. Bill's Quality Bookmark Page
The purpose of this page is "to provide a bookmark page for, and information on, Internet resources relating to quality and continuous improvement." Lots of links to sites dealing with benchmarking, theory of constraints, ISO 9000, and project management, plus essays on selected topics.

National Committee for Quality Assurance
This is the home page of the National Committee for Quality Assurance, an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to assessing and reporting on the quality of managed care plans, including health maintenance organizations (HMOs). This site includes detailed information about this organization, about the performance of HMOs, and related matters.

National Performance Review/Reinventing Government
This site provides information on the progress of the initiative led by Vice President Gore. The site includes tools, examples, and links to various other government sites, primarily of interest to federal employees, but worth a visit for anybody.

The Pennsylvania State University Center for Quality and Planning
This is the information site for all quality initiatives at Penn State. If you are interested in TQM can be implemented at a major university, this is definitely worth visiting.

Product Data Management Information Center
Product data management is a subject and a process that is critical to the effective management of information to reduce cycle time, waste, and rework in manufacturing. This site includes extensive resources on this subject and visitors can sign up to regularly receive information. Lots of good stuff, including bibliographies, articles online, and links to other Web sites. If you are in manufacturing, definitely worth visiting.

The QFD Institute
This site has the descriptive subtitle "For the advancement of quality function deployment." It includes a reasonable amount of information about QFD events, application case studies, bibliographies and QFDI forums and master classes, plus a search engine. But if you wanted to find out what it is or how to use QFD by visiting the site, you would be disappointed.

Quality Management Links Collection Browser
This "experimental site" links to more than 150 quality management sites organized by topic.

The Quality Network
This site includes information on quality management, ISO 9000, environmental management, and safety management, along with many links to other sites dealing with issues related to quality management.

The Quality Online Forum
QOF is a service for members only, with a one-month free trial subscription available. Devoted to quality improvement and related issues, it contains a wide range of resources including bibliographies, book reviews, the full text of magazines and newsletters, video listings, demo software, catalogs, over 30 discussion groups, and an extensive events calendar.

Quality Resources Online
Run by Bill Casti and billed as "the largest no charge collection of Quality-related information, groups, discussion lists, and resources in Cyberspace," this site has it all. If you try only one Web site, this would probably be your best bet.

Quality World: The QA Dude's Site
This is perhaps the most comprehensive set of links available, with some 1880 links to at least 42 countries. Visitors can search for links by text, quality keyword, or country, or browse through all the sites. If you can't find the link you want here, it doesn't exist.

"The Quality Tools Cookbook" covers a wide range of traditional tools, with graphics and examples.

American National Standards Institute, ANSI Online
Everything you might want to know about ANSI and its many services, with information on courses and many other resources ANSI offers to help organizations develop and implement standards for measuring and maintaining consistency in processes and quality in outputs. Includes links to sites of international, regional, and national standards organizations.

International Organization for Standards, ISO Online
If you want to know about the organization that set and administers ISO 9000 standards and certification, this is a good place to get information, both for novices and those more experienced, and find out about resources offered. Not as complete as the ANSI site.

ISO Center
This site, hosted by SCS Engineers and ETI Corporation, is dedicated to ISO 9000 and 14000, including certification requirements and recommendations on implementing quality and environmental management systems.

ISO Easy
As the name suggests, this site takes an easy approach to ISO 9000, with some publications, a few links, and a little humor.

ISO 9000/QS-9000 Support Group
This organized group helps companies understand and become ISO-certified, including ISO 9000, QS 9000, and ISO 14000. There are good articles and good links. This might be the first site to check out if you're in ISO certification.

National Institute and Standards and Technology (NIST)
A very valuable site for any company seeking information on NIST resources for improving manufacturing processes. NIST-sponsored conferences and training programs on standards and technology-related matters are described here. NIST also administers the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, so there's an internal link to information, including the criteria for business, health care, and education.

Productivity Press

Quality Digest Magazine

Quality Magazine

American Institute for Total Productive Maintenance

APICS—The Performance Advantage
This is the site for APICS—The Performance Advantage, the magazine of the Educational Society for Resource Management (formerly the American Productivity and Inventory Control Society). Burton Knowledge Services
This site features “Knowledge Management and Innovation Conferences and Workshops” and a dozen links to knowledge management Web sites.

Competitive Intelligence Guide

The Data Mine

Datamation
As of March 1998, Datamation ceased print publication, to go entirely on-line. The Delphi Group, Inc.
lthough primarily promoting the services of The Delphi Group, which launched the International Knowledge Management Executive Summit in 1998, this site offers visitors access to some free white papers. Delphi is one of the leading consulting companies in knowledge management.

European Benchmarking Consortium on Knowledge Management
The Web site features a forum for registered KMN members, with discussions organized around propositions and questions; the discussion threads are then organized into categories, around specific KM topics. Visitors may also access the KMN archives for position papers and reports.

Extranet: A Reference Page
This page is maintained by Kerstin Forsberg, who updates it monthly. It features definitions and introductions, articles, books, conferences and courses, discussions, and references—including some resources in Swedish.

FEND Enterprise Knowledge Development Agora
FEND, the Federation for Enterprise Knowledge Development, is a non-profit federation of leading companies and universities collaborating to research, develop, test, and disseminate materials. This site features an electronic bulletin board.

Global Knowledge
This site is intended to continue the global dialog on how to harness knowledge and information as tools of sustainable and equitable development, a dialog that began with Global Knowledge ‘97, the international conference on Knowledge for Development in the Information Age in June 1997.

Knowledge Connections: David Skyrme Associates
This site features I3 Update, a free briefing analyzing developments in the networked knowledge economy. (The I3 means intelligence, insight, innovation.) The publication is also available by e-mail. The site also contains articles from past issues related to knowledge management and business strategies, as well as a collection of links to other Web KM resources.

Knowledge Management Consortium
KMC was incorporated in December 1997 as a nonprofit organization to bring together organizations to develop a shared vision and common understanding about knowledge and knowledge management in the context of a knowledge economy. Among the resources being planned for KMC members are special interest groups, a newsletter, case studies, articles, a bibliography, and links to other knowledge management groups.

Knowledge Management Forum
KM Forum was established to promote a better understanding of knowledge management. The site and associated mailing list have been inactive for a while, but the founder was planning to transform and revitalize the forum in 1999.

Knowledge Management Server
The site, managed by Tom Davenport, offers a good bibliography, with some articles on KM and related subjects, and a resource review of products and organizations.

KPMG Nederland: Knowledge Management
This site features KM in Practice (cases) and best practices, two on-line assessment instruments (knowledge management and learning style), and a bibliography of books related to knowledge management.

The Official Intellectual Capital Home Page
Sponsored by the Institute for Intellectual Capital Research, this is a site for academic researchers and knowledge managers. It features an extensive list of references to intellectual capital and related topics (with Web links or ordering information), a list of prominent researchers and managers in the field, a list of software or other tools for identifying, measuring, and effectively managing intellectual capital, and a list of links to conferences, past and future.

Sveiby Knowledge Management
