Yuffie is an ass-kicking, double-crossing, money-hungry little bitch from Final Fantasy 7. It goes to follow that she is my favorite costume. I also think it is one of the best-crafted costumes I've ever made (perhaps tied by San from Mononoke Hime). I'd never played the game, much less seen the character when a group of my buddies asked me to join them in a huge group skit of the whole cast (minus Cid Highwind). They e-mailed me this illustration and in four days all systems were go! I need to find photos of the FF7 group I costumed with because we rocked AWA 97, and won Best Skit.
Construction notes:
I am starting to write an illustrate a step-by-step on how I made the
costume, so stay with me. The basic text for how I built the armor can be
found here. I purchased the shorts and shoes. I
hacked-up a turtleneck I already owned
for the shirt. I made the leg brace and
armor straps from scratch leather (nothing like learning leather working
and riveting in one day). The mesh leg and arm pieces are butchered
red/black fishnets with elastic sewn on. And lastly the headband and
arm/piece are reinforced with the same ½ foam I used for Pen Pen's head.
The hair (for once) is my own.
I just sent a photo of Yuffie to Wizard Magazine's Halloween costume contest. I don't think I'll take first but I'm hoping for free swag.
