What would a day with our family be like for your
child? We've tried to describe a typical day at our
house so you could imagine what it would be like for your
child to join our family.
I
know for sure that in the morning your child would get
kisses and hugs from all three of us as soon as he/she
woke up!! Neal and Eric would be the ones to get your baby
dressed while I got breakfast together. Then Neal would
nestle him/her into my lap so I could feed your baby as we
all ate our breakfast together. If it were a Saturday, all
four of us would have ended up snuggling together in our
bed for a while before breakfast. If it were a
weekday Neal would be the one taking Eric to school.
Your baby and I would stand at the window to wave good-bye
to them as they pulled out of the driveway.
Then your baby and I would head straight for the rocker to
spend some snuggle time together. I would sing songs for
him/her while I stroked his/her hair, all the while gazing
deep into her/eyes. I would tell him/her stories - folk
tales, tales of far away places, and stories of our love
and yours. I would enjoy standing at the window with your
baby and telling him/her about the different birds that
visit our feeder just outside the kitchen window. I might
put on some soft music and dance gently around the living
room if he/she would start to get fussy just before
naptime. Instead of putting on the radio at naptime
I would play soft lullabies on my flute while your baby
drifted off to sleep.
While he/she was napping I would hurry about and get
my housework done so that we could be together when he/she
woke up. If I had a few chores left after naptime I'd leave
the little things so I could keep him/her right by me
while I was working and so I
could tell all about what I was doing - even if it was
just pulling a few weeds in the garden or taking care of
the dishes.
Then we would go to pick up Eric from school. I know
that he would come running up to give your baby a kiss
right away! After a snack I would settle the baby in
my lap while I read storybooks to your baby and Eric. In
winter your baby and I would no doubt stand giggling at
the family room window while watching Eric slide down the
hill in our yard. And in the summer I would lay out a
blanket under the shade of our crabapple tree for your
baby so he/she could watch Eric chase his soccer ball
around the yard. Some afternoons we might go to the
orchard up the road for apples and vegetables, or we might
go to the library. When the weather was nice we
would enjoy long walks around the neighborhood or to the
park.
However, I know that from the minute Neal walked in the
door until bedtime your baby would be daddy's little one!
Neal really looks forward to spending time with Eric after
work and he is looking forward to that special daddy time
with our next child too!! We eat our dinner together
around our kitchen table every evening. We believe
that this is a time for more than just the food we eat. It
is a time for kids to tell their parents all about their
day - their joys and disappointments, their
accomplishments of today and their dreams for the next
day. It is a time to talk about ideas, values, and lessons
learned. It is a family time.
At bedtime Neal would gently slip your baby into his/her
jammies. While feeding him/her Eric would be sitting on
the floor eagerly listening to a tall tale made up by Neal
just for the two of them. Then I would sit in the darkness
slowly rocking your baby to sleep in my arms. And, just as
we do now with Eric, we would tiptoe into your child's
room before we went to bed, so we could kiss his/her soft
cheek and whisper and extra "I love you" in his/her
little ear.
