Most adoptions need an adoption attorney (and sometimes more than one) to help complete the adoption process.  A major role of the adoption attorney is to make sure everyone involved in an adoption plan understands the legal effects of adoption and to oversee the court filing of all the documents needed for an adoption. Birthparents do not have to pay for the services provided by an adoption attorney during the adoption process.
