Most of my family think the internet is neat but will probably choose to wait until it becomes an option through the remote
control on the TV set. My family is steeped in the traditions of the south and reside mostly in Richmond VA, with branchs in
Syracruse NY and Scranton PA. We ended up in the Northern Midwest due to my fathers love for the outdoors. My older sister,Natalie,
was a pioneer in the computer age, worked for AT&T,was on the 911 development
team and currently resides in lovely San Ramon CA with my beautiful niece Kimberly.
My immediate family consists of Gary Alan Smith who doesn't have time to play on the internet, but graciously puts up with my modem madness. My brother Roy exemplifies the spirit of the northwoods. An avid outdoorsman, he has been responsible for always reminding me that there is more to life than work. He has carried on the hunting and fishing traditions of my father and appreciates a good beer, preferably RedDog. My nephew, Jesse a very cool guy, has been hacking his way onto the internet since the age of 15 and was responsible for leading me to some very cool sites and showing me how to navigate on an IRC channel. He finally graduated from high school in June and is currently single, free and good looking. You will find him on latenite IRC aka Raistlin. My niece Elisabeth, known in the family as "the great fearless consumer" She zooms around the great Northwoods in the summer on her cool black moped, but word is out she will be getting her drivers liscence soon.
The Official Martys Bar and Pizza OS/2 SIG
Most of my friends (sigh) do not feel the need to self-proclaim, and have to-date not set up web pages. Nevertheless, a large
number of them hang out in the OS/2 Conference on ExecPC. Most of us actually "lurk" in the conference, but inevitably show up
for the periodic "OS/2 Pizza" meetings held at Martys on Bluemond. There you find 7 different conversations going on at once, lots
of beer and pizza and a good time is had by all. BTW, you don't have to run OS/2 to show up!

At some point in time we have spent many hours (days-weeks?) with computers, sent a lot of e-mail, disassembled our computers periodically -under the guise of updating them- and generally enjoy each others company.
John one of my earliest mentors who impressed the importance of knowing DOS and set up my first QModem session in the fall of 1987. John is currently the owner of "my dream machine" a pentium equipped with a huge SCSI drive, mega memory and on and on. Who knows perhaps he will have a homepage soon. ( prod-prod )
Curt who has been a good friend for many years, is responsible for continually prodding me to update and do new things. He has become a mucky muck at ExecPC, and does a great job. We should all send mail to his boss to give him a raise. (Just Kidding Bob!) Oh BTW, Curt built John's power machine with loving care.
Dr. John my neighbor who moved to the city is incredibly interesting and is always on the cutting edge. He currently maintains a homepage that uses Adobe Acrobat, so you will need the browser. It is currently available for Dos/Windows and OS/2. John is foremost a scholar, teacher and friend and practices family medicine in his spare time. His pages are packed with interesting information. Oh yes, John is one of those Mac users too.
"Doogie" as he is known at the company is responsible for ensuring the sales department is kept on the leading edge. He is constantly a thorn to ISD testing, pushing, prodding and I am certain has Mazda labels sewn into his underwear. Probably by his boss. (smile) He's always hacking his company computer, He is bound for greater things. (update 3/96) Doug recently got a big raise and a promotion and moved away to Indiana..I thinK?
