SHARDS OF WIGGETT
SHARDS OF WIGGETT presents twelve solo piano improvisations by Matt Turner, exploring the piano's melodic and percussive capabilities at the keyboard and directly on the strings inside the body of the instrument. Matt Turner is regarded as one of the world's leading improvising cellists. Equally adept as a pianist, Turner has performed everything from jazz standards and twentieth century new music to alternative rock and improvised avant-garde. He completed his undergraduate studies at Lawrence University and his Master of Music degree in Third Stream Studies at the New England Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Dave Holland, Geri Allen and Joe Maneri. His first solo CD INFILTRATOR (Geode, 1995) alternates cello and piano improvisiations. His most recent CD titled THE MOUSE THAT ROARED (Meniscus, 1999) features a live performance of solo cello improvisations. SHARDS OF WIGGETT is his first solo CD concentrating exclusively on his freely improvised piano music.
