Derek de Lint excerpt from the article "They're Heeere!" by Frank Garcia

pg. 90

The point man of The Legacy is Dr. Derek Rayne, played by the distinguished Dutch actor Derek de Lint, whose acting credits include Soldier of Orange(1977) and The Great Escape II: The Untold Story(1988).

"He's a mysterious man. You don't know much about him," says de Lint of the character he is creating. "He doesn'thave a family, he's totally obsessed and dedicated. He inherited [this career] frm his father, because of what happened t him when he was 15 years old. He saw his father die in front of his eyes [battling a demon], and he's become almost totally obsessed in the fight against evil. He's definitely a leader."

De Lint says that it's joyous to play a character who's a tortured soul and who possessespsychic powers becaue "it's more fun to play than happiness. That's boring, you know. There should always be conflict. Crying is much easier than laughing. To be totally happy is very, very hard to play and not be boring after one minute. And drama is conflict. There must be a tormented soul -- there's so much to play here, it's wonderful."
