"Stealing Heaven" - the movie - tells the tale of one of the greatest true star-crossed lovers' love story next to Romeo and Juliet. Peter (Pierre) Abelard, was and still is a reknowned 12th century scholar, lecturer (celibate) and poet.. He fell in love and broke his vows with Heloise, a smart, vivacious, challenging and highly educated (unusual for the time) 16 year old who comes to Paris to live with her Uncle Fulbert. During the course of their intimate relationship, they have a child out of wedlock and go completely against his vows to the Church. Abelard is in turmoil with himself for going against God and yet he loves Heloise so that he cannot stop himself. After they secretly marry, Fulbert (Heloise's uncle) seeks his revenge against Abelard for ruining the possibilities of marrying Heloise off to a rich husband. If you have not seen the movie nor know of the tale already, I won't spoil it for you. If you would like to read more about the story, I highly recommend reading the translation of one of Abelard's writings that is as close to an autobiography as you can get. It is called Historia Calamitatum - The Story of My Misfortunes.
