Romanian
Adoptions
Click here to see updated information on Romanian MoratoriumReferral:
When we receive a referral on your behalf, we send you a picture and a medical
record of the child. The child selection is done according to the recommendation
of the home study. Refusal of a referral is accepted for medical reasons. Once a
particular child is selected, we will make sure that the adoption procedures are
finalized in the shortest possible time. Through our staff in Romania we will apply on your behalf for an
adoption hearing. International
travel: To finalize your
adoption in Romania, the prospective adoptive parent(s) have to personally
observe the child during the adoption process. This requires travel to Romania.
We may assist you with travel arrangements, lodging and transportation
throughout Romania. You have to be prepared to spend approximately one week
there. You will spend most of the time with your child. A nanny will be
available during your stay in Romania, but you must bring the necessary supplies
for the child (formula, clothing, etc.) If you cannot travel due to
medical/emotional reasons or due to national safety reasons, the child can be
brought to the US with an escort. The adoption must be finalized in the US
within 60 days after the child’s arrival. If you wish to see the child in
Romania before the adoption takes place you can do so. We then bring the child
home with an escort when the procedures are finalized. Child’s
Visa: will be issued by
the US Embassy in Bucharest. Additional
services and support:
Romania offers the option of foster care. Foster care will provide
individual attention to the child’s physical, social, cognitive, and emotional
growth. In foster care the risk of the child’s contracting infectious diseases
common to institutions is reduced. Paperwork: Following is the paperwork included in the adoption dossier. Ø Form I-600A - approved by regional Immigration and Naturalization Office. Ø Form I-600 - will be filled at the US Embassy in Romania. Ø Proof of citizenship - Birth certificate or Certificate of citizenship, copy of US Passport. Ø Proof of Marriage and Prior Divorce(s), if any. Ø Home Study Ø Police Record Ø Generic Declaration of Adoption – describing the child’s age and gender. Ø Power of Attorney – for Van Dyke, Inc. and its agents/employees and associates to represent you and be able to sign all necessary papers regarding the adoption. Ø Medical Record – a letter (one for each member of the family) from your family physician stating your physical and mental health condition. Ø Approval Letter – from the Department of Health and Social. |
